Between 1942 and 1949 approximately 20,000 African-American men completed recruit training at Montford Point, North Carolina. They took the challenge to fight for and defend their country at a time when racism and segregation was common place. Despite the challenges that these men faced the Montford Point Marines fought with valor at Peleliu, Iwo Jima, The Chosen Resevoir, Vietnam… I mean the list goes on and on. These are the shoulders that we minority Marines, officer and enlisted, stand on and this is the legacy that we have the honor of continuing.

Today’s brunch was an amazing time to fellowship and connect! The 11th Annual Sisterhood Big Hat Brunch hosted by the Montford Point Marine Association Auxillary chapter would not be possible without those Marines that paved the way for us all. I thank you. (at Jacksonville, North Carolina)
